Description

Book of Accompt of John Thynne, as Steward of the Household Edward Seymour, Earl of Hertford; 1 Oct. 29 Hen. VIII [1537]-30 Sept 30 Hen. VIII.[1538].

Both receipts and Payments are signed at the end of each month "E.Hertford". The former amount to £2569.17.4¾; and the latter (including £4.7.3 due on the last accompt, see SE/Vol.XIV.) to £2665.3.4, the balance due to the accomptant being £95.5.11¼.

The payments are arranged under heads, viz. (a) "Solutio dietarum" or provisions, £830.14.7. f.7;- (b) "Rewardes", £123.6.9. These include 20 sh to "Robert of Mulsey for bringinge my lorde worde of the birthe of prince Edwarde", his nephew, [12] Oct.1537. f.27;- (c) "Necessaris and foren expenses" £194.1.8½. f.35;- (d) "Wagis", £73.2.4 (John Thynne, 20 sh. a quarter). f.55 (e) "Utensilles", £63.4.3¼. f.57;- (f) "Warderobe", £263.2.0. f.62;- (g) Stable £96.8.3. f.69;- (h) Jewel-house, £104.0.4¾. f.77;- (i) "Buyldinges and reparacionnes", £254.12.7½. f.80;- (k) Extraordinary payments, £658.3.2. f.85.
