A gas works was opened at St. Columb in 1884 and the St. Columb Gas Works Company Ltd. was listed in 1913. In 1930 the Padstow and St. Columb Gas Works Company Ltd. was registered (Ex. inf. Mr. R. G. Laycocks, the Secretary of the South Western Gas Board. (C.R.O. 10. July 14th 1970).
