52 horse power crank engine, with 36 inch cylinder, 7 foot stroke, parallel motion, [cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod]. Power increased to 68 horses with addition of 41 inch cylinder 1830.Reverse plan and sections of the engine house, front view of the engine showing part of the mill and boiler; spur wheel - reverse drawing; cylinder - partially coloured reverse plans and section; nozzles - coloured original and coloured reverse drawings, as follows: section of upper sliding valve nozzle; plans of upper nozzle; front view and plan of upper sliding valve nozzle; front and side views of 13 inch sliding valve nozzles and pipes (no reverse copy); section of lower sliding valve nozzle; front view and plan of lower nozzle; section of lower nozzle; section of lower nozzle, working gear etc. (direct copy only); front view of lower nozzle, working gear etc., unmarked section of nozzle; governor - reverse drawing. All the drawings bear letter codes.
Also 3 sketch plans and section and notes by Henry Creighton, Feb. 1806; plan and section of the mill showing shafts, canal etc.
Also the following items from the 1830 alterations: sketch of shafts, air pump etc. by William Creighton, Jul. 1829; upper and lower nozzles marked "Old 80 horse nozzles measured from castings at SF" and "James Kennedy & Co. 70 horse"; plan of the new cylinder, condenser, air pump etc.; section and plan of the engine house showing new parts. All the drawings except Creighton's sketch and the cylinder plan bear letter codes.Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 568. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 92.
For James Kennedy. Cotton mill [?], Manchester. The concern later became James Kennedy & Co.
