The records were deposited in 1998 by Mr A Zatman, former secretary of the society (Accession Number 1998/12).

The Society was founded as the Provincial Waterproof Company Ltd Independent Tontine Society in December 1922 by the employees of that firm. It was a Jewish friendly society which aimed to pay benefits on death of next of kin, sickness, Shiva (week of confined mourning), and provide money for surgical appliances. In 1924, the name was changed to the Provincial Independent Tontine Society, and continued as such until its dissolution in 1997.
