Description

Contains deposition registers (some indexed). These books contain verbatim (word for word) copies of evidence from the examination of witnesses in church court lawsuits. The witness's name, age, occupation, and places of residence (past and present) are usually given.

Causes relate to a variety of matters including probate disputes, slander and disputes over mortgages as in the case of William Snothe v. Richard Vidgeam (deceased) and Andrew Vidgeam. In this case there are witness statements from Martha Woodward, Daniel Grimston, Thomas Chapman and others [DCb/PRC/39/55]. Often the statements relating to one cause are not consecutive in the registers as some hearings stretched over a few days and the witness statement are transcribed in the registers in the order that they were given in court

Arrangement

The records are arranged in chronological order.
