The records listed below were deposited in the Chester City Record Office on 26 January 1984 by Mrs P. Uttley, Clerk to Malpas burial joint committee, 3 Mercer Close, Malpas, Chester via Councillor F.N.Craddock, The Limes, Wigland, Malpas, Chester. RB/2/2 is closed to public inspection for a period of thirty years following the date of the last entry.

Administrative / biographical background

The Burial, Act 1853, empowered local vestries to elect burial boards to administer cemeteries and burial grounds. Malpas Burial Board was established in 1873 with the Rev. C.W. Cox as its first chairman. A site for the burial ground in Stonepit field was purchased from the Marquis of Cholmondeley. In 1897, the board was renamed Malpas burial joint committee
