Title
Accounts of a Cuckfield baker
Date
1858-1863
Description

These accounts were found in the loft of a house in Cuckfield. The baker's name does not appear in them, but the later insurance certificate (Add Mss 18342), suggests that the shop was in the High Street. Of the four bakers listed in the 1862 County Directory, only Thomas Bunting is found occupying High Street premises in the 1851 census return. As well as bread they also record the sales of other items including biscuits and sweetmeats (Bunting calls himself a baker and confectioner), flour and dough
