An undated and unattributed report (marked private and confidential) outlining planned schemes for the iron and steel industry post-WW2.
The report comprehensively details the modernisation and expansion plans in place for local companies (Dorman Long, South Durham Steel and Iron, Skinningrove Iron Co. Ltd. and Consett Iron Co. Ltd) as well as companies across Britain. A number of recommendations for each company are made in the report and, in the case of the North East companies, reference is also made to the proposed rationalisation of the iron and steel industry in the area.
The report features a large amount of statistical information, with comparative production figures for the years 1937 and 1943 across a number areas particularly prominent. Also included is a sketch indicating the number of blast furnaces and steel works capacities in Britain (in 1945).
In terms of Dorman Long, amongst the author's recommendations is to close Britannia and Acklam works in favour of a new Universal Beam Mill and Melting Shop.
