The ancient parish comprised the townships of Ashton, Bruen Stapleford, Burton, Clotton Hoofield, Duddon, Foulk Stapleford, Hockenhull, Horton cum Peel, Kelsall, Mouldsworth and Tarvin. The parish included the parochial chapel of Hargrave a hamlet in Foulk Stapleford, which, according to Ormerod History, 2nd ed., v.2 p. gradually obtained the oversight of Foulk Stapleford. In 1878 it was assigned the district of Foulk Stapleford and Huxley in Waverton parish. Other parishes formed out of Tarvin parish are:
1849 Ashton Hayes, comprising Ashton, Horton cum Peele and Mouldsworth.
1956 Kelsall, chapel of ease 1844.
St. Peter, Duddon, is a chapel of ease erected in 1835
