Description (What the record is about)
-
Letter of Henry Liggan, West House, near Otley, Yorkshire, former Secretary, Lodge at the White Hind Inn, Newark to Robert Leslie informing the Grand Secretary about his departure from Newark nine months previously. Liggan resides about 18 miles from Leeds and 12 miles from Knaresborough where there are Moderns' lodges meeting but no Ancients' lodges. Seeks advice on the legality of visiting such lodges after receiving a circular from Grand Lodge concerning Moderns' lodges and membership. Liggan seeks support and advice about George Hunter, a flaxdresser, admitted as a freemason at a Lodge in Woolwich, London, who is experiencing mental illness and is under medical care at Knaresborough, Yorkshire. With draft note by Leslie mentioning that Hunter does not appear to have received a certificate from a Lodge and therefore the Grand Secretary did not answer the request.
