London Office Miscellaneous Papers

Specification for East India Frigate, 1844.
The specification was sent to Boulton Watt & Co. by J. D. Dickinson on 21 November 1844 and consists of the following parts: Specification of a pair of Marine Steam Engines of the collective power of 500 horses to be delivered on board and fixed into a Steam Vessel of the East India Company; Heads of the Contract for Engines etc.; A List of Engineers’ Tools and Stores to accompany a pair of Marine Steam Engines of the collective power of 500 horses; A Specification of sundry duplicate and spare articles required for a pair of Marine Steam Engines of the collective power of 500 horses.

Miscellaneous Loose Papers, 1844-1881.
This bundle contains the following items: Burial certificate of Mary Lucas, 6 May 1831; bill of shipping of parts of an engine, 7 Jun. 1844, section of a boiler, not dated; wrapper from a bundle of accounts of work done on the Fens, not dated; printed table of screw and bolt sizes, Nov. 1868; list of items sent from S. & V. W. W. Hampton, 10 May 1881.

Rough accounts of stores, men’s time, smiths’ work, parts etc. 1870-1873.
This bundle contains rough accounts for work at the following: the Pneumatic Distribution Co. at Holborn; ‘the shop’ [Thames Place?]; Ruston’s boiler; J. E. McConnell; the Bank of England; Western Pump Station; various steam boats including Woodlark, Vigilant, Lewis’ yacht, Hawk, Ariel dredger, William Peel, Lady Derby, Cromwell, May Queen, Fairfax, Coquette, Iris, Kromatah, Transport, Chiltern, Atrato; altering a copying machine for Mr. Colquhr; forgings for 2 donkey engines; materials had by Mr. Lilley, etc.

The records listed here are various items from the London office. They include one-off items such as James Watt Jr.?s passport for his voyage up the Rhine in the Caledonia steam boat in 1817, and bundles, including one concerning Italian coinage from 1867 to 1868.
