Administrative / biographical background

The school was in existence from at least 1924, although it does not appear in local directories until 1936/38 (Pike's Directory). Pike's Directories list the school as Broughton [sic] Ladies School. The school continued until at least the 1950s; the entry in the 1951/52 edition of the Lewes, Newhaven and District Directory published by Silver Eagle, describes it as Braughton Prep School. Miss M E Way seems to have been headmistress throughout its existence
