Genre: Architectural Photography. A closer view of the linga shrine, taken from the same angle as print 845. This is very similar, but not identical to pl. 3 of James Burgess, 'The Rock-Temples of Elephanta or Gharapuri' (D.H. Sykes & Co., Bombay, 1871). The negative assigned to this number is in fact a slightly different view, signed in the negative: Sykes & Dwyer. For another copy of this photograph in better condition (a later printing), see Photo 199 (1).
