DML/MB/N.2311 Paragraph 3: The 3 aircraft built to date were each designed around a pair of Beryl units, which now give about 3,850 lbs thrust each, making a total of 7,700 lbs. The only possible alternative engine which will avoid an acceptable re-design and loss of performance, is one Sapphire. The Derwent or any other centrifugal unit is far too large. Page 2: If Saunders-Roe are to produce any further aircraft the possibilities are therefore as follows: a. Metro-Vicks will agree to produce the necessary Beryl units.(b) Armstrong Siddeley Motors. (c) MoS will offer the production order for Beryl to some other firms.(d) Saunders-Roe will use Sapphire instead of Beryl
