The church of St Paul was built in 1868 to the design of John Newton, architect, and was demolished in 1964. The parish was created in 1870 from the parishes of St Leonards St Mary Magdalen and St Leonard. A single incumbent was instituted to the parishes of St Peter and St Paul in 1960 and a new parish of St Peter and St Paul created in 1964, the year in which the church of St Paul was demolished.
