553. Whitegritt Mine, Shropshire. Apr., May 1783, Jan. 1784, Sep. 1787, Oct. 1795. 45 items.
Single-acting engine, with 30 inch cylinder, 8 foot stroke, chain connection. 33 inch cylinder added 1795, 33 1/3 inch cylinder added 1804.

Reverse general view of the engine, inside front view of the engine and boiler, end view of engine and boiler seating and chimney, ground and 1st floor plans of the engine and boiler, outside view of boiler and section of chimney, cross-section of boiler; reverse plan and sections of the engine house; reverse plans and sections of boiler; adjusting screw, chain links, gallows, condenser rod cross bar, piston rod caps, martingales, glands for beam straps and king posts; beam strap ends, boiler steam pipe, eduction pipe, boiler stay ends - reverse drawings.
Injection gear - reverse side and front view, hands, arms and catches, Y shaft marked "for Whitegritt & Crouchley's engines", upper Y shaft; working gear - drawing marked "laid aside because the rod for opening the upper working gear would be in the way of the man's arm - and for some other defects"; working gear - partially coloured original and reverse plan and front and side views (the reverse drawing is marked "This drawing not executed", plan and front and side views marked "working gear executed for Whitegritt mine"; upper working gear - partially coloured original and reverse plan and side views; arms, hands, catches, arm etc. of the Exhaustion and middle Y shafts, levers (detents), connecting links etc. - 6 sheets of full size reverse drawings.
Also the following drawings for Leadhills: reverse plan and section of boiler, Sep. 1787; reverse plans and section of new cylinder and air pump, Oct. 1795. The 1795 drawings bear letter codes.

Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 35. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 286.

For Joshua Blakeway of Lythwood Hall, John Lawrence of Shelvefield, Thomas Lloyd Anwyl of Shrewsbury, and others. For Whitegritt mine, Shelve, Shropshire. The engine was stopped in Jun. 1785 and sold to the Leadhills Co., Lanarkshire the following year.
