Description

Commissioners of Legal Enquiry in the West Indies, 1829, unnumbered volume, Report on Bermuda, 18 August 1829, Commissioners Henry and Dwarris. The volume contains a letter from Henry covering his report and annexed documents, with a further letter from Dwarris confirming his general agreement with the views and suggestions contained in the report. Enclosures include:

  • manuscript copy of the report on Bermuda [the fourth report of the commission], with contents list;
  • examinations of the 'public functionaries', in question and answer format;
  • printed copies of the Bermuda Courts Act, 1814; 'An Act to alter one of the Return Days of the Court of General Assize', 1815; 'An Act to alter the Terms and Return Days of the Court of General Assize of these Islands', 1817; and 'An Act relating to the adjournment of the Court of General Assize', 1818;
  • manuscript copy of 'An Act fixing the rates of Fees', 1819;
  • printed copy of 'Bermuda Rules and Orders' [1814/15], with various other orders relating to court business;
  • tariffs of fees received;
  • list of prisoners detailed in the prison at St George between 15 November 1825 and 1 May 1826;
  • petitions, memorials and correspondence relating to complaints;
  • copy of the Bermuda Gazette of 4 May 1822, including a report of proceedings in the Court of Errors;
  • two printed copies of 'An Act for the better Regulating the Treasury of the Islands of Bermuda', 1775.
