Description

Commissioners of Legal Enquiry in the West Indies, 1829, unnumbered volume. Honduras and the Bahamas, reports etc. Commissioners Henry and Dwarris; Secretary Hill. This volume includes correspondence from the commissioners, much of which concerns administrative matters such as salaries, accounts, claims and the progress of their work. Other papers are as follows:

  • observations on the draft of a Bill for giving effect to the recommendations contained in the first three reports for improving the administration of justice in the West Indies;
  • charges against Commissioner Dwarris made by Mr Lumsden;
  • code of gaol regulations for the colonies;
  • copy of the Third Report of the Commissioners of Inquiry into the Administration of Criminal and Civil Justice in the West Indies and South American Colonies: Honduras and the Bahama Islands. Dated 24 February 1829. As printed for Parliament [No 334, 174 pp];
  • additional private report on Honduras [manuscript];
  • manuscript copy of a Bill 'to make further and more effectual provision for the Administration of Justice within the Settlements in His Majesty's possession at the Bay of Honduras';
  • answers of the 'public functionaries' of Honduras to questions put to them by the commissioners;
  • notes of individual cases;
  • special report on Honduras examinations;
  • answers of the 'public functionaries' of the Bahamas to questions put to them by the commissioners.
