Description

Commissioners of Legal Enquiry in the West Indies, unnumbered volume. Miscellaneous papers relating to the work of the commissioners in Trinidad, as follows:

  • application of attorney general for his fees and costs in assisting the commissioners;
  • numerous petitions, evidence given before the commissioners, and other papers detailing grievances and complaints relating to the administration of justice and referred to the commissioners [in English, Spanish and French];
  • questions put by the commissioners to Ashton Warner, chief justice of Trinidad, and to other members of the judiciary, with their answers;
  • instructions from the Tribunal of Intendant to the Depositario General [1818];
  • journal of proceedings on the Lodge Estate, giving numbers of slaves, hired tradesmen and hired labourers; daily occurrences 'with remarks of crimes, punishments, &c'; state of the weather; accounts of receipt and expenditure of certain supplies; accounts of produce made and delivered; and hospital reports.
