Folios 299-300. Letter from John Brooke of Birmingham, Warwickshire, reporting the violent anti-government attitudes of the dissenters at Dudley, and listing the names and trades of several of the most dangerous, including William Finch, Dr Priestley's son-in-law. Brooke has learnt that breastplates have been manufactured locally and, though they are claimed to be in fulfilment of an order from the Duke of Richmond [Master-General of the Ordnance], he wishes that the magistrates, Joseph Carles and Dr Benjamin Spencer, could feel justified in instigating searches.
