Folios 287-288. Memorandum to Evan Nepean, Under-Secretary, Home Office, from Lord Rivers [colonel of the Dorset Militia] at Hertford Street, Westminster, asking about the fate of the convicted deer-stealer Charles Amey aboard the Lion hulk at Portsmouth, whose case the Home Secretary had promised Rivers should be referred to the trial judge. In the light of the death on board the hulk of 2 of Amey's accomplices, Rivers, who had been prosecutor, was satisfied that he had suffered enough punishment and hoped to recruit him.
