Folios 35-36. Letter to Jane Dundas [the Home Secretary's second wife, formerly Lady Jane Hope] from Lady Anne Hope at Gosport, Hampshire, with a message for the Home Secretary regarding the situation at Fortune [Forton] prison based on the testimony of Lieutenant Hole of the West Middlesex Militia. The prisoners were making no secret of their intention to break out in the near future and, there being no wall, the palisade could easily be forced by more than 2000 desperate men, yet the more senior officers were making light of the risk.
