Description

Letters from various government offices (departments) most of which relate to the despatches sent from the governor in CO 295/511 - CO 295/513. Correspondents and subjects covered are as follows:

  • Admiralty (supply of petroleum to British boats, appointment of the collector of customs as Naval agent, oil concession, allowance for the officer supervising oil fuel shipments, government floating dock and workshop, American firm engaging in oil operation, drilling obligations under the United British West Indies Petroleum Syndicate lease, acquisition of oil rights by Norwegian and Swedish interests, export of tank material to Venezuela, payment to H B Walcott for services as Naval agent);
  • Crown Agents (oil agreement with Pearson & Sons, agreement with Trinidad Central Oilfields Ltd, oil-mining lease for Pearson, United British West Indies Petroleum Syndicate, model oil prospecting licences and mining lease for 'alienate lands', Professor P Carmody's pension, Dr H L Clare's pension, £93 4s 4d overpaid to M E Coombs, cocoa estates, L E Abrams' colonial allowance, printed particulars for the sale of enemy cocoa estates and town properties, Coomb's debt to the local government, export of cocoa from enemy estates, advance of £20 to Sub-Inspector Captain Warner, Pearson's application for oil rights, sale of enemy properties);
  • Privy Council (petition of destitute Indian immigrants for repatriation to India);
  • Foreign Office (good shipped to New York by Blohm and Co, re-export of gold, extradition of convict Bellamy, cargo on the Maracaibo, detainment of Hollandsche Transatlantische Handelsvereeniging goods arriving in Trinidad, intercepted letter from B E Benjamin, case of P H Scheener, claim of J de D Belle against the Venezuelan government, cocoa detained at Havre, import of 'exotic' woods into Holland, certificates of exemption for Chinese to enter the US, German acquisition of Margarita, Anglo-Portuguese commercial treaty, free port at Margarita, Venezuelan ex-president Castro, application of Austrian nun Bronislava Dobrowolska for a visa, proposal to limit the exploitation of oil-bearing lands to British subjects, revolution against the pro-German government of Venezuela);
  • Home Office (the inclusion of children born as British subjects on their parents' naturalisation certificates, Manuel Maria Martinez's nationality);
  • India Office (movement of suspected Indian revolutionaries in Trinidad, attendance of forest officer at the provincial service course, the post of assistant forest officer);
  • Board of Trade (enemy trademarks, nationality the directors of certain firms, shares held by Hugo Hoffman in the Trinidad Shipping and Trading Co, offer no observations on Merchant Shipping Amendment Ordinance, distressed seaman Allison Joris MacKenzie, transfer of certain interests to a Norwegian company);
  • Treasury (liquidation of enemy property, minutes concerning Trinidad and Tobago war contributions)
