Description

Despatches from George Ruthven LeHunte dated December 1909, together with correspondence from the Admiralty, the Crown Agents and the Trinidad Government Emigration Agency sent during the year. Despatches are described at item level; other correspondence is not, and correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Admiralty:

  • draft lease to Trinidad Petroleum Company [3 items];
  • agrees that any further grants to the New Trinidad Lake Asphalt Company should comply with land regulations [2 items];
  • suggests amendments to the Mines, Boring and Quarries Ordinance [2 items];
  • memorandum and articles of association of Trinidad Oilfields Limited [2 items];
  • articles of association of the Trinidad Oil Exploration Syndicate Limited;
  • comments on model licence to prospect for oil and model lease for oil lands.

Crown Agents:

  • loan legislation;
  • contribution from Trinidad for Sicily earthquake appeal;
  • Mr A G Bell: his leave and appointment as Government Director of the Trinidad Dock and Engineering Company;
  • proposed acquisition of the Floating Dock by the Government of Trinidad [3 items].

Trinidad Government Emigration Agency, Calcutta:

  • conflicting demands for recruitment of migrant workers from other colonies;
  • queries report that British Government is to appoint a committee to consider questions relating to emigration to crown colonies;
  • requirement for additional land at Calcutta;
  • facilities for indentured workers in Trinidad to communicate with families in India;
  • delay in Mr W F Bolton's return to Calcutta;
