Description

Letters from various government offices (departments) and individuals most of which relate to the despatches sent from the governor in CO 295/305 - CO 295/308. Correspondents and subjects covered are as follows:

Offices (Government Departments):

  • Admiralty (report on Carnival of 1885);
  • Foreign Office (Venezuelan differential duties, claims against Venezuela for seizure of Josephine and Henrietta, commercial treaty with Venezuela, remission of tonnage duty in US ports on Trinidad vessels, designs against Venezuela by certain persons in Trinidad, Venezuelan revolution, movements of Venezuelan revolutionary General Venancio Pulgar, protest against leasing of the pitch lake, capture of Venezuelan rebel steamer Oriente sailing under a British Flag, seizure of rebel steamer Justicia Nacional by Santo Domingo [Dominican Republic], complaint regarding revolutionary movements against Venezuela from Trinidad, Venezuelan rebel steamer Justitia, petition of Watson & Sons regarding the Pitch Lake);
