Description

Letters from various 'offices' (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Trinidad. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (HMS Cherub stationed at Trinidad);
  • Crown Agents (redemption of public buildings and tramroad debentures, requisition of surgical instruments, Engineer Charles Hutton and the construction of a railway, hiring of an engineer and assistant engineer to conduct a survey of the proposed railway from Port of Spain to Arima, instructions for Trinidad railway engineer);
  • Council Office (operation of the Vaccination Act 1867);
  • Board of Trade (no objection to ordinance for the registration of droghers and sailors);
  • India Office (alleged cure for leprosy discovered by Dr Bhou Dajee of Bombay);
  • Treasury (security required from the receiver general, proposed Telegraph Ordinance, allowance of interest on judicial deposits, time period for receiving Spanish silver coins, construction of telegraphs by the West India and Panama Telegraph Company, Captain Newland's pension, Dr Mitchell's pension);

  • Royal College of Physicians (observations on whether leprosy could be transferred by vaccination);

  • University of London (award of the Gilchrist Scholarship to George De Mongiraud Knox);
