Description

Letters from various offices (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Trinidad. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Crown Agent (redemption of debentures, advance to Mr Rat for King's College fees, Mr Bushe's retirement gratuity, supply of drugs and chemicals, articles for water works);
  • Emigration Board (suppression of squatting, approval of Ordinance No 3 of 1868, application of Hume Bernard and Company for a land grant, Mr Turnbull's land grant, disposal of Crown Land, additions to the Court of Intendant, disapproval of Ordinances Nos 24 and 25);
  • Foreign Office (French paupers Henry and Maria Besson, appointment of Dr D Montbrum and Robert Bogle as Consuls for Colombia in Jamaica and Trinidad, governor's proclamation forbidding the export of arms to Venezuela, three Trinidadian girls abandoned by their parents in France, appointment of Dr Mountbrum as Vice Consul for Brazil, appointment of G Fitt as Venezuelan Consul, Dr Bakewell's claim on the Venezuelan government);
  • Geological Survey (bituminous fuel);
  • General Post Office (issue of postage stamps);
  • Royal College of Physicians (comments on Dr Bakewell's report on leprosy);
  • University Local Examination, Cambridge (examination papers);
  • Treasury (estimates for 1868, Ordinance for raising funds, increase to Police Force, sinking fund investment of guaranteed loan, expenditure for repairs of Leper Asylum, Mr Bushe's gratuity, appointment of an additional warden, supplementary estimates, Appropriation Ordinance, Mrs Pantin's £100 gratuity, Bank of England's claim to interest and commission on £125000 debenture, repair of St Philip's rectory, grant of £100 extra per year to Mr Hobson, expenditure of the Convict Establishment, Mr O'Brien's £100 gratutity, £500 grant to Protestant and Roman Catholic Churches, erection of a guardhouse at La Basse);
