Description

Letters from various offices (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Trinidad. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (passages of various colonial officials, J Samuel's pension claim, John Fuller to act as registrar of the Vice Admiralty Court, shipbuilding capability of Mora Wood);
  • Crown Agents (guaranteed loan, tram road debentures, postmaster's complaint of bad stationery, Admiralty Registrar Fuller's fees, shipments of: fracture beds, stationery, surgical instruments, postage stamps, police clothing, medicines, and geological reports);
  • Privy Council Office (resignation of Edward Calvert former Headmaster of the Collegiate School);
  • Foreign Office (United States Consul R Newbold, ammunition for Bolivar, seizure of Manuel Jose Oriarch by the Venezuelan authorities, disturbances in Venezuela, appointment of F English as Roman Catholic Bishop, enquiry respecting P A Godineau);
  • Law Officers (disputed criminal jurisdiction, approval of draft bill 'Injuries to the Person');
  • Civil Service Commission (naturalisation of J E Andre);
  • Geological Survey (report of Mr Wall and Mr Lawkins, cost of printing report);
  • General Post Office (claim for postage);
  • India Office (Clements Markham's pamphlet on Cinchona plants) [pamphlet not included in volume];
  • Treasury (Mr Dawkin's guaranteed policy, Mr Hart's passage, Estimates and Appropriation Ordinance, increase of salary to the registrar general's porter, Governor Keate's passage, stipendiary magistrates' official duties, proposed vote for the Lunatic Asylum, proposed vote for the Police Force, salary of head gardener, additional salaries for hospital surgeons, ports of entry, interest of guaranteed loan, stipend and horse allowance of the Roman Catholic Curate, messengers for Petty Debt Court, additional salary for assistant cure, postage on West Indian newspapers, purchase of a sailing cutter, new harbour light, C Cuyler's bond as Receiver General, information concerning weights and measures);
