Description

Letters from various offices (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Trinidad. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (passages of various colonial officers and their families, warrant issued for Governor Keate's commission as Vice Admiral);
  • Colonial Agent (shipment of postage stamps, mail bags, stationery, and police clothing);
  • Colonial Office (Mrs Alcock recommended as superintendent for the female model school);
  • Foreign Office (Mr Spaccapietra's claims as Roman Catholic Archbishop of Trinidad, Joseph Guiseppi's appointment as Venezuelan Consul and Confidential Agent, property of Mr Descovie, judicial acts to be sent to Mr Dumoret, enquiry respecting the Abbe Parmetrat, Mr Scheult's appointment as French Vice Consul);
  • Home Office (use of title 'Royal' by a philanthropic lodge);
  • Treasury (mines and minerals, estimates for 1856, D Clarke's application for submarine wrecking exploration, proposed second steamer for coasting service, customs seizure of case of muskets from the Ellen, sewerage of washhouses on the Orange Grove Estate, irregularities of 1848 accounts, sanctions John Black's appointment as overseer of Public Works, audit queries regarding Treasurer Allen's accounts of 1854, unauthorised payments, approval of expenditure connected with Mora forest and saw mills, Governor Keate's passage allowance, salary due to G P Wall, interest on loans, sanctions Estimates and Appropriation Ordinance 1857);
