Description

Letters from various offices (government departments and other organisations) on matters related to Trinidad. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • Admiralty (Lord Harris's commission as Vice Admiral, engineer supplied to the Senator);
  • Crown Agent (Emigration Agent Pike's salary, payment of iron works for government buildings, transfer of £2000 from colonial to emigration funds, £1000 bill drawn by governor, payment of fees on Mr Knox and Mr Wylley's appointments, emigration expenses, requisition of medicine);
  • Board of Trade (answer to memorial from cocoa merchants);
  • Foreign Office (property of Austrian Jean Desovich, projects of Venezuelan Transport Company Agent Mr Etzler, arrival of British subjects as settlers in Venezuela, capital of Guyana changed to the city of Bolivar, British subject Mary Gibson sent with her family from the United States to Trinidad, exequatur for United States Consul Marache, agreement with Venezuela for the surrender of fugitive criminals, attestation of Francois de Koster's death certificate);
  • Law Officers (no objection to ordinances Nos 34 to 36, report on Ordinance No 5 of 1846);
  • Treasury (value of British coin in the colony, establishment of steam boat communication, regulation of buildings in Port of Spain, Lord Harris's passage money, governor's irregular proceedings regarding articles supplied by tradesman in England for fulfilment of contracts, sale of stock to meet emigration expenses, J Smith's escheated property, £100 yearly allowance for postmistress in lieu of extra postage charges, Lord Harris's allowance, Puisne Judge Johnston's pension, grant of £150 each to two curates, Tax Ordinance of 1847 unobjectionable, fees on Lord Harris' commission as governor);
  • War Office (asks for the date Sir Henry George Macleod ceased receiving a salary as governor of Antigua);
  • Land Board (Mr Pike's bill, employment of an American vessel for emigration, emigrants by the Tropical Emigration Society to Venezuela, bills drawn for India and Madeira emigration, emigration loan, bounty on emigration from Madeira, Lord Harris's proclamation against intercolonial emigration);
  • Society of Apothecaries (report on Ordinance No 31 of 1845 'to amend the constitution of the Medical Board');
  • Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Mr Purdie's appointment to the Botanical Garden);
  • College of Physicians (report on Ordinance No 31 of 1845 'to amend the constitution of the Medical Board');
  • Royal College of Surgeons of England (report on Ordinance No 31 of 1845 'to amend the constitution of the Medical Board');
  • Trinidad Railway Company (requests an interview to state proposals).
