Description

Letters from various offices (government departments and other organizations) on matters related to Trinidad. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • House of Commons (requests correspondence regarding the appointment of Dr Rolph as Agent for the 'removal of the coloured population of Canada' to Trinidad);
  • Crown Agents (payment for the hire of the Senator, transfer of funds to the emigration account, payment of salaries, expenses of emigrants arriving on the Senator, payment for building supplies, estimate for weights and measures);
  • Council Office (no objection to confirmation of the Leprosy Ordinance);
  • Foreign Office (Descovich's property, escape of criminals of Venezuelan boats, no objection to Mr Hamilton's appointment as Emigration Agent for the West Indies at Rio de Janeiro, treaty with Venezuela for the extradition of criminals);
  • Law Officers (reports on various ordinances);
  • Board of Ordnance (appointment of J O'Connor to superintend the asylum);
  • Treasury (duties on exports and imports, duty on wine, payment for part of the expense of stationery at Sierra Leone for emigration purposes, John Smith's escheat, estimates of expenditure, salary of second puisne judge, Mr Bradfield's passage allowance, abolition of customs duties, two additional Roman Catholic priests, stores for emigrants, Bishop of Barbados' visitation expenses, confirmation of the Saving Bank Ordinance, estimates and expenditure, Ways and Means Ordinance, John Malick's escheated property, breaking up of the settlements at Manzanilla, grant of pensions to 'black' soldiers);
  • War Office (Lieutenant Colonel Archer's salary for administering the government);
