Description

Letters from government offices (departments), other organisations and individuals relating to the despatches sent from the governor in 1917. Correspondents and subjects covered are as follows:

Offices:

  • Foreign Office: (registration of Chinese in Jamaica; restrictions on foreign banks in US; deportation of suspects to UK; Miss Hay's complaint; French import restrictions and goods of British colonial origin; French duties on Jamaican products);
  • Home Office (expulsion of Cuban alien Armand De Lemar); naturalisation of Mr Chamberlain; opium for West Indies);
  • India Office (Postal War Tax Turks and Caymans);
  • Law Officers Department (Military Service Law, 1917);
  • Parliament: House of Commons (Praedial Larceny Law);
  • Board of Trade (freight rates between UK and Jamaica; prohibition of rum imports; consignment of lace marked 'made in Germany'; re-export of goods marked 'made in Germany'; funds for repatriation Ali Mahomed, Herbert Lewis, T Sexton, G Hollar; freight for bananas from Jamaica; import of bananas; Enemy Trade Marks Vesting Law);
