Description

Correspondence from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) on matters relating to Jamaica. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • Admiralty (Graving Dock at Kingston, Cuban insurrection, water supply at Port Royal, Crown rights to foreshore);
  • Crown Agents (Mr Finlaison's report on Constabulary pensions, improvement of communications at Kingston, appeal case of the West India Improvement Company versus Daubigny, Kingston Improvement Commission, Indian indentured emigration, investigation of cattle disease by the Veterinary Surgeon Professor W Williams, appointment of Mr A R Peaty as Assistant Engineer of the Kingston Improvement Works, appointment of C D Moffat as Medical Storekeeper, post of Mistress for the Infant School, investment on account of the Kingston Streets Redemption Fund);
  • Emigration Agent at Calcutta (return passages for Indian migrants, accounts of the Agency for 1894-5 and 1895-6);
  • Board of Trade (Foreign Enlistment Act, loss of the SS Golden Fleece, suggested amendment of the Marine Board Law);
