Description

Letters from various government offices (departments) and individuals most of which relate to the despatches sent from the governor in 1880. Correspondents and subjects covered are as follows:

Offices (departments):

  • Admiralty (water supply, Port Royal);
  • Crown Agents (Jamaica Railway, company's title; rail extension to Porus; purchase of Jamaica Railway; extension to Ewarton; Mr Bell's salary; dinner set for government; railway staff; appointment of Messrs Tyrell, Gallwey, & Parkes on railway);
  • Council Office (proposed right of appeal from British Honduras to Jamaica);
  • Board of Trade (ordinance 2 of 1880; 'shipwrecked colonial seamen Law, 1860'; license to land cables);
  • Law Officers (Pulido v Musgrave, the 'Florence Case'; Pulido v Musgrave, governor's position; proceeds of encumbered estate sale);
  • Treasury (proceeds of encumbered estate sale);
