Description

Offices and Individuals. Letters from 'offices' (Government Departments and Individuals) relating to the West Indies, 1864. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (anti-slavery meeting, occupation of Guano Islands, ship dock, Kingston penitentiary, mail to Belize);
  • Crown Agents (passage of C B Brown);
  • Foreign Office (sovereignty of Pedro Cays, Danish Consul's claim for exemption from jury service, appointment of George Nunes as Vice-Consul for Sweden and Norway, appointment of Louis Malabre Arnold as French Consular Agent, appointment of Richard J C Hitchins as Vice-Consul for the United States);
  • Land Board (annexation of Cayman Islands, removal of Guano from Pedro and Morant Bays by Mr Astwood);
  • Law Officers (removal by Crown of official assignee);
  • Kew Gardens (Cinchona plantations);
  • House of Assembly (congratulations on the birth of a son to the Prince and Princess of Wales, memorial to the Queen);
  • Geological Survey (appointment of a surveyor, appointment of an assistant surveyor);
  • Geological Museum (passage of Mr Brown); Lunacy Commissioner (proposed alterations to the Lunatic Asylum);
  • Board of Trade (sugar duties);
  • Treasury (investments in sinking fund, private security, improvement of Lunatic Asylum, perpetual annuity fund, termination of agreement with mail company, Mr Bell's application for assistance);
