Description

Correspondence from the bishop of Jamaica, Christopher Lipscomb, to the secretary of state mainly concerning ecclesiastical matters such as the appointment, conduct and resignation of members of the clergy, and renovations to the bishop's residence. Also includes:

  • Correspondence relating to the erection of a chapel at Worthy Park, the property of Sir Rose Price, with details of size, materials and expenditure
  • Correspondence relating to the conduct of Mr Bridges, rector of St Ann's, including Parliamentary Paper of 10 March 1831 entitled 'Return to an Address to His late Majesty, dated 12 May 1830, for copy of any Information which may have been received from Jamaica respecting an Inquiry into the Treatment of a Female Slave [Kitty Hilton], by the Reverend Mr Bridges, Rector of St Ann's in that Island; with the Minutes of Evidence taken by the Magistrates on that occasion, and the result of the Inquiry'
  • Parliamentary Paper of 23 December 1830 entitled 'Return to an Address of the Honourable The House of Commons, dated 15 December 1830, for Copies of all Communications relative to the reported Maltreatment of a Slave named Henry Williams, in Jamaica'
