Letters from various government offices (departments), most of which relate to the despatches sent from the governor in 1836. Correspondents and subjects covered are as follows:

  • House of Commons (address from Agent regarding proceedings of governor and Assembly);
  • Admiralty (sending convicts in packets; Captain Willis creditors of Messrs. Willis & Waters; state of convicts when sent home; passage expenses of magistrates to Caymans; Lord Sligo's passage; passage of Sir P. Smith & Sir E. Macgregor; conveyance of regiment; Sligo's passage to Port au Prince; impressment of 'negro' Charles Murray; victualling convicts; Sligo's passage on Belvidera; Sir L. Smith's passage);
  • Agent (letter to Mr. Miller; charges against Sligo regarding conduct towards Assembly; intention of Assembly to defeat progress of Emancipation; Assembly petition regarding charges against Sligo; Assembly memorial denying right of Imperial Parliament to legislate for them; duty on British imports; observations on certain documents from Supreme Court judges; reply to Mr. Stephen's letter to Lord Melbourne; letter from Mr. Taylor requesting investigation into his conduct; right of Assembly to tax British imports; disputed precedency at Sir L.
