Description

Letters from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and individuals relating to Jamaica. Correspondents and subjects covered are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (answer to Colonial Office not required as Mr Rickell has himself applied to the Admiralty; means of bringing 'invalid' troops home; expense of Sir J Keane's passage to New Providence and back);
  • Agents (letter for Mr Bullock; detention of mail; request for mail to be delayed; Act appointing commissioner to contract for loan; the Loan Bill, resolutions of Loan Commissioners; request for appointment, Assembly measures regarding Slave Code, sending away of slaves Charles Mark and John Baptiste, expenses which arose from recent uprising; detention of mail; expenses; letter from Committee of Correspondence; interview; letter to Mr Wilberforce; Loan Act; silk production; interview; letters from Mr Venables; detention of packet; interview; wishes to introduce Mr Mitchell who was involved in Lescene and Escoffery case; West India Company; appointment; requests copy of report by Messrs Maddock and Dwarris; thanks for legal commissioners' report);
