Report of Robert Alderson, Recorder of Ipswich, on John Micklefield, convicted at Ipswich, Suffolk, in January 1809, for receiving a stolen bushel of corn. The prisoner had already had a sentence of transportation commuted to 2 years solitary confinement in the gaol at Ipswich (because of his age) for stealing 22 deals [planks], value £4 on 6th March 1805. Grounds for clemency: advanced age (not given). Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: mercy. Annotated: 'Inquire of Mr Critchett if ye party can give Security to transport himself & if he can, to go directly from the hulks'. Folios 344-345.
