Report of Robert Graham on 1 individual petition (the Marquess of Bath) and 1 collective petition (64 people, from Frome, Somerset, including the parents of the prisoners, magistrates, churchwardens and overseers) on behalf of James Morgan/Joseph Morgan, (tried with James Sheldon alias James Hatfield and William Makepiece), and convicted at the Worcestershire Assizes for highway robbery against Thomas Carden, Lieutenant in the Worcester Militia, on 6 December 1808. There is a letter from the Marquis of Bath. Grounds for clemency: previous military service in the militia, he is contrite and of previous good character, no weapons were used and he was intoxicated at the time. Initial sentence: death. Recommendation: mercy. Folios 229-232.
