Report of John Heath on 2 collective petitions (49 people, including churchwardens, the mayor, the minister, tradesmen and others of Maidstone, Kent, most trades/professions given; and 17 people, including the Mayor of Canterbury, [for Clements only]) on behalf of William Clements and Thomas Jackson, employees of Henry Collis, builder and carpenter, convicted at the Kent Assizes at Maidstone, for breaking, entering and burglary against Henry Collis; in his counting house part of his dwelling house. Evidence supplied by John Moss, servant. There are covering letters to the petitions form Lord Camden and E Taylor. Grounds for clemency: previous good character, the counting house was not part of the dwelling house, no housebreaking implements were found on them, Clements has an aged parent, wife and infant children to support and is penitent. Initial sentence: death. Recommendation: no mercy. Folios 190-201.
