Report of B Frank on 1 collective petition (10 people, the prisoner, ministers and others of Hipperholme cum Brighouse and Halifax, Yorkshire West Riding and York) on behalf of William Murgatroyd, shoemaker, convicted at the Yorkshire West Riding Quarter Sessions at Pontefract, for the assault, with aggravated bodily harm, of William Rushworth, wool comber. Grounds for clemency: the prisoner had an aged mother dependent on him, has already served 15 months, has behaved well in prison and this is attested by the keeper and chaplain of the prison. Initial sentence: 2 years imprisonment at the Castle of York. Recommendation: no mercy. Folios 173-176.
