Report of Archibald Macdonald on 2 collective petitions (36 people, ministers, churchwardens, overseers and others of Canterbury, Kent and 5 people) on behalf of William Smith, servant, convicted at the Kent Assizes on 8 August 1808, for the embezzlement of £2:9:7 from James Saffery, printer on 17 June 1808. Evidences supplied by James Saffery, printer; Thomas Tipper, schoolmaster and James Clarris. Grounds for clemency: previous good character, first offence, is contrite and has been offered employment. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: not given. Folios 74-77.
