Description
Petitioners
George Nevill (Neville), Lord Bergevenny, son and heir of Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Richard, late earl of Worcester, son and heir of William Beauchamp, late Lord Bergevenny, and Jane his wife; and also kinsman and one of the heirs of Isabel, late Lady Spenser and Countess of Worcester and Warwick, daughter and heir of Thomas, late Lord Spenser.
Name(s)
Nevill (Neville), Lord Bergevenny, George
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Nevill states that William, late Lord Bergevenny and Jane his wife entailed the moiety of their inheritance on Isabel by diverse inquisitions and other matters of record remaining in the king's court, and the king is now seised of part of the inheritance in right of his wife, daughter and one of the heirs of Anne, countess of Warwick, another of the daughters and heirs of Isabel, late Lady Spenser, and the residue of the inheritance remains in the king's hand by the minority of Edward, earl of Warwick, son and heir of George, late duke of Clarence, and his wife Isabel, another of the daughters and heirs of Anne, countess of Warwick. The petitioner before this time showed his evidence to the king and to the late duke of Clarence, and it pleased the king to commit the examination to Starky, Pigot, Sulyard and Huddesfeld to examine the matter, which they did examine, but the petitioner is still not restored, and requests that the king consider the matter. He also requests that several manors of this inheritance in Suffolk and Sussex of which he was seised and afterwards removed from be restored to him.
Nature of endorsement
[Most of the response is either now lost or illegible, and the sense cannot be recovered].

Note
The petition is dated to c. 1483 as the petition is clearly of Richard III's reign, making mention of Queen Anne Neville, and also of Humphrey Starkey as chief baron of the Exchequer, an office he held until apparently 1486 (Sainty, The Judges of England, p. 94). The Duchess of Clarence, wife of the George, Duke of Clarence, is normally known as Isabel, but in this document is called Elizabeth.
