Mountagu requests a grant of the manor of Efford which was part of the manors, lands and tenements granted to him and Eleanor his wife before these hours, the which manor is extended at £8 19s. 5d. beyond the £7 13s. 4d. that the late earl granted to Richard [...] and Joan his wife for the term of the life of the same Joan who is still living taking the same from the same manor at the terms of Easter and Michaelmas by equal portions, to have and to hold to the petitioner from Michaelmas last during his minority without paying anything to the king's use. The petition is dated to c. 1402 as it seems likely to date closely to a grant of a manor on the Isle of Wight to augment his maintenance made on 16th February 1402 (CPR 1399-1401, p. 42). The petition has to be before April 1403 when the petitioner appears to have been styled as earl of Salisbury, though he was not then of age (CPR 1399-1401, p. 217)
