The tenants complain that the vill of Chiltington was one vill in the half hundred of East Easewrithe and they were assessed in the fifteenth and the sum divided between the tenants of the Zouch family and those of Lucy and [...] at Goringlee for the parcels making up the vill. The petitioners state that the half hundred of West Easewrithe pertained to the castle of Arundel, and the half hundred of East Easewrithe to Bramber castle, and the respective lords, the earl of Arundel, and lord Mowbray exchanged lands within the two so that the earl of Arundel had the tenants of Zouch to him in West Easewrithe, for the tenants of Thornwick that were in West Easewrithe to Lord Mowbray in East Easewrithe. The tenants of Zouch pay at the vill of Storrington 10s 8d, but now in default of aid and maintenance the sub-assessors of Storrington assess the tenants at their will to the sum of 30s which is not at all the fifteenth of their [...] to the great grievance and impoverishment of the tenants of the king, Zouch and Lucy. The petitioners request that remedy, and that the parcels of the vill of West Chiltington be rejoined [...] in aid of the tenants.
