Description

Council.
Nature of request
The merchants request that remedy be made so that they are able to buy wool throughout the realm as they were want to do before the ordinance concerning weights, the penalties for which are most perilous and grievous to the merchants so that they dare not buy wool [the petition detailing abuses of weighing goods for which merchandises are forfeit].
Nature of endorsement
[None].
er, the hand does appear to suggest that it might well be earlier than this parliament roll complaint.
Note
The petition is dated to? c. 1330-? c. 1355 on the basis of the hand, and also on a common petition of 1354 that complains of the failure to introduce new weights across the realm (Rot. Parl., vol. II, p. 260b (no. xxi)). However, the hand does appear to suggest that it might well be earlier than this parliament roll complaint.
