Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/346/E1404
Date
[c. 1332]
Description
Petitioners
Bartholomew de Burghersh, seneschal of Ponthieu.
Name(s)
de Burghersh, Bartholomew
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
seneschal of Ponthieu
Nature of request
Burghersh requests that regard is had to the costs that he has been put to in a dispute with the comte d'Aumale, maintaining the king's right.
Nature of endorsement
Coram magno consilio.
Places mentioned
Ponthieu, [France].
People mentioned
Comte d'Aumale.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1332 because the petitioner was appointed as seneschal on 24 October 1331, and the receiver was ordered to pay additional sums to the petitioner on 27 October 1331 and 21 September 1332, this latter payment perhaps relating to the petition (CPR 1330-4, pp. 188, 235; CCR 1330-3, pp. 350, 490). As the petitioner refers to costs incurred in office, it seems unlikely that these were incurred in the three months in 1331 after he was first appointed, so that c. 1332 seems a reasonable dating for the petition.
