Nature of request
The petitioner details the ferry that went from Rotsea in Holderness to Goodale House which existed from time immemorial, and which the lords of Octonholm had to find the boat for and could charge a halfpenny for a man, his servant and their horses, and a farthing for two foot passengers. On this three inquisitions are returned into Chancery, and upon these other certain people were assigned to survey the passages and ways according to what was found in the inquisitions and their obstruction, and to make those who should find the boat do as they were accustomed to do, but nothing was done because the writ came to Thweng and his mother and other malefactors and disturbers of the peace, and the passages and ways were obstructed, and the boat withdrawn, and not suffering the men of the king to pass by the ways and paths in contempt of the king's orders and to great damage of all the country around. The petitioner requests that justices be assigned to hear and determine (oyer and terminer) the trespasses for his right to maintain his people.
