Note
The dating of this petition presents some problems. The petition is part of a group of petitions that a note preceding SC 8/346/E1392 states is probably the remains of a file of c. 1324, and which includes petitions SC 8/346/E1392-E1399. For most of these petitions this date seems reasonable, and for SC 8/346/E1393 seems very likely. However, the dating of this petition seems to be to 1308-c. 1320 because inquisitions post mortem for this property were ordered on 1 May 1308 (CIPM V, no.31), on the death of Hugh Gerounde (his heir being his 9 year old son John), and on 15 May 1322 (CIPM, VI, no. 296) on John's death (his heirs being his two infant daughters). This would seem to date it to between 1308 and John's majority in c. 1320. It is unclear whether this petition is a stray petition amongst petitions which are the remains of a file dating to c. 1324, or whether this group should be redated individually.
